Could HI be the antidote to AI?

There’s so much being written about how AI is poised to fundamentally shift productivity, labour markets, the jobs that people do - and the jobs that will be available for people to do.

So I've been thinking (in really simple business and marketing terms) ...could Heart Intelligence be the antidote we need to Artificial Intelligence?

Like how do we create brands, develop customer relationships and reach out to potential clients in a way that people can really trust and connect with?

I’ve also had some really interesting conversations. From an academic’s perspective – Raphael Dennett, a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and colleague at Exeter University told me about the large scale devaluation of human productivity and the impact this will have on mental health.  I delve into what he shared about that below.

I also spoke to Nick Hall who started the Music in Devon initiative. We’d both been thinking about how human connection and in-person events - live music, in person workshops- are going to be more and more important. We’re both all over that, and share a passion for a heart led approach.

In terms of how we approach marketing - I believe authenticity is key. And when you lead from the heart, that authenticity will shine through.

As a business owner, you should know WHY you’re doing what you’re doing. You will have a passion, cause, initial spark that sent you on your career path. Communicating these is going to be increasingly important as people become more and more disillusioned and suspicious of advertising and marketing materials that have been generated by a bot. They will FEEL the difference.

This means we’re also seeing a resurgence in in-person events and collaborations - thank goodness! I have a feeling there is going to be even more support of small, locally owned independent businesses who are really walking their talk.

If you’re using a large language model like Claude (or ChatGPT) for developing your content – I believe it will only be as authentic as the information it receives from you. You have to get the basics right first – your why, what and who. And create these from your heart.

As I mentioned, I recently had a fascinating email conversation with Raphael Dennett, a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and colleague at Exeter University.

I wrote to him about some of the ethos behind Heart Leaders and that I believe it’s time for a radical rebalance of how we view work, do business and view success.

He said ‘What you are doing around reframing success sounds additionally important in the age of AI’.

Wow, I hadn’t known the extent or the larger context of what I’d intuitively been feeling. So I asked more.

According to Raphael, who is also a government advisor and an expert advisor to the UK:-

‘Data already emerging is saying that humans do not have the change resilience required to navigate the self-identity disruption that comes from the large scale devaluation of human productivity and knowledge acquisition.

Different people respond to this in different ways (over producing work to try and prove their value, putting their head in the sand, ‘AI Displacement Anxiety’, going off with stress etc.).

Either way, we just aren’t equipped for changes of this magnitude and speed and as a result, we seem to be at risk of a collapse of mental health.’

So what I’ve been intuitively including in my workshops and programmes – that we need much more focus on nervous system regulation in our daily working lives. And that we need to re-evaluate how ‘hard’ we work and what prosperity means. It’s even more important as we navigate AI transition.

This just the start of this conversation and some initial thoughts but I wanted to get these thoughts out there because it feels like many of us are thinking the same things.

Big love!
